Match winner: the simplest tennis bet

Match winner is a straight bet on who wins the match, no scoreline involved. At odds of 1.65, a ₱100 stake returns ₱165 if that player wins, ₱65 profit. It is the tennis equivalent of a moneyline bet in any other sport.

Set betting: naming the correct scoreline

Set betting asks for the exact set score, not just the winner. In a best-of-three match the possible scores are 2-0 and 2-1 for either player, four outcomes total; a best-of-five match, used in the men’s Grand Slams, adds 3-0, 3-1 and 3-2 for either side.

Naming the wrong set score loses the bet even if you picked the right winner.

Game handicap: leveling a lopsided matchup

A game handicap adds or subtracts games from the final count the way a points spread does in other sports. A -4.5 games handicap on the favorite at 1.90 means that player needs to win by 5 games or more across the match for the bet to land. It is the tool that makes a mismatched pairing bettable at a reasonable price.

Total games: betting the combined count

A total games line of 21.5 asks whether both players’ games added together clear that number, regardless of who wins the match. A 6-4, 6-3 match totals 19 games, settling the Under side; a 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 match totals 33 games, settling well over.

Retirement rules vary by sportsbook

A retirement happens when a player who has started a match cannot continue, most often through injury or illness, and the ATP’s own rulebook requires an on-site medical examination when that happens. What a sportsbook does with an already-placed bet when that happens, whether it voids everything, settles completed sets, or something else, is set entirely by that sportsbook’s own rules, not by tennis. Read the bet slip’s own retirement clause before assuming either outcome.

MMA betting: method of victory compares differently

MMA’s closest equivalent to naming a tennis set score is a method-of-victory market: betting not just who wins but how, by knockout, submission or decision. Where tennis narrows the bet to a scoreline, MMA narrows it to the manner of the finish, and both pay a longer price than a straight match winner because both ask for more detail correctly.
